As I passed Colony South Hotel in Clinton , MD this morning I read the billboard out front as I always do. Well this morning, the billboard says, Country First, MCCAIN/PALIN!!! I was in shock! I thought someone must be having a private fundraiser at the hotel for McCain, as someone just had a private event there for Obama. I knew this hotel would not be publicly advertising for McCain when I am certain a majority of their business is generated by constituents of the Democratic Party. Well, I just called the hotel and was told that indeed the Hotel is supporting McCain/Palin. I think this is really unprofessional to use your business as a platform for a candidate, unless you give both equal play. That is why Oprah will not use her show as such because she has officially endorsed a candidate. If the owner of the hotel (Dr. Francis Chiaramonte, who also owns Southern Maryland Hospital), privately endorses McCain that is wonderful; however, with regard to his employees, as well as patrons of his establishments, this information should not be advertised. It's similar to the way Wal-Mart has treated its employees--inferring they should vote Republican. Unless you are going to give both candidates/parties equal coverage, I think most businesses should remain neutral. This is certainly employer intimidation! I told the receptionist at the hotel that I will spread the word and will ask everyone I know to boycott Colony South Hotel and Hospital (to the extent possible).
